Man Sues Apple over iPod-induced Hearing Loss

Posted on 2-Feb-06 at 4:54 pm by Ryan Thrash

What a lazy jerk with a bad case of self-entitlement and abusive, low-life attorneys. He claims iPods come "without adequate warning" that jamming speakers inside your ear canals and turning up the volume so your neighbor a block down the street can hear your oh-so-delightful tunes might hurt your ability to hear in the future.

In a related story, the plaintiff's attorneys are in the process of forming a class action case against the Pancho's and Taco Bell restaurant chains in the first ever multi-defendant case for "gross negligence due to elevated gaseous emissions contributing to global warming".

Why so angry? ;-) by BeeStar 03-Feb-06 07:36 AM
Ryan,

hope this supports you in your feelings:

"May I have the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage and willingness to change the things I can,
and the wisdom and clarity to know the difference."

:-D

Why so angry? ;-) (part II) by BeeStar 03-Feb-06 07:39 AM
What I want to say is:

Some people behave in ways we don't understand.
They probably don't understand the way *we* live our lives! :-)

"gross negligence due to elevated gaseous emissions contributing to global warming"

They need to be fighting the real issues not chasing GAS!

Two things I hate... by Bravado 06-Feb-06 07:44 AM
Two things I can't stand are ignorance and stupidity. You don't have to be the smartest person in the world to not be ignorant...it's called "common sense". Same applies to stupidity...even highly intelligent people do the stupidest of things! I think this instance falls under both, don't you? Not only is it an incredibly "stupid" claim but it lacks "common sense"! It's reason to say that if you turn your iPod up too loud it might actually cause ear damage and potential hearing loss! Does Apple and everyone else who sells MP3 players, CD players, and what not really need to paste a big ole message on the side of the box to let people know about this? I don't think so... Again, it's called common sense! Ugg!

Agreed but... by davidm 07-Feb-06 06:18 AM
I agree with all the comments above but how come the legal system allows this kind of lawsuit to even have a chance of success ? In most countries, the guy never would have tried it, for it would never work...

Even more stupid by andyccn 23-Mar-07 08:16 AM
I know it's been a while but wth...

What makes even less sense about this case, iPod's do have a warning. There's a setting that allows you to set the maximum volume, and it pastes a warning on the screen that you have to OK when you set it quite high, saying "excessive volume with extended play may damage your hearing ability" or words to that effect.
