Please use this topic for feedback on the 0.9.5 public beta / release candidates.

IMPORTANT NOTES (until the following get crossed out, anyway):

  • You should ALWAYS back everything up first (files + full DB dump). Every time. Even if you are an evil computer genius. Really.
  • This version is not for feedback on the content; there's an appreciable amount of work to do there still.
  • Install all snippets, even the deprecated ones.
  • Don't change the manager theme.

Hello,

I have installed the beta on my local PC:
Fedora 5
Apache 2.2.2
PHP 5.1.4
MySQL 5.0.22

Everything looks good so far, I must admit I have not checked all features, but here are some little things to mention:

  • When using the AJAX search on the page, then hit "Click here to view all results" it sends me to the 404 error page. Hmm, actually many more pages of the default install send me to the 404 page.
  • Login user name to manager is still case sensitive Sad
  • Manager theme is not working quite well in Opera, but good in FF.
  • In manager (Tools >> Export Static HTML) I get this PHP warning:
Code:
Warning: Call-time pass-by-reference has been deprecated - argument passed by value;
If you would like to pass it by reference, modify the declaration of [runtime function name]().
If you would like to enable call-time pass-by-reference,
you can set allow_call_time_pass_reference to true in your INI file.
However, future versions may not support this any longer.
in /path/to/modx/manager/actions/export_site.static.php on line 232
    Same error for line 251.

Wow, how fast and nice-looking the new 0.95 is!

Okay, there are some issues... some not specific to 0.95, but I'll write them down here any way.

First of all, I'm new to MODx, have been looking into "old" 0.9.2.1 for about a week, and I'm not an expert in any way. And also English isn't my native language.

If you still want to read my observations, just go on Smiley

1. If you when installing choose a manager log in name with more than 15 chars only the first 15 chars are stored into the database, the rest get trunked without warning. When trying to log in to manager after installation with you 20 chars (or what ever) log in name you will get a "wrong pass/user name" warning. If you try log in with only the first 15 chars it works.

I guess that some one evaluating MODx possible would give up here and go on to Mambo Sad

2. I did choose not to install the stuff marked "deprecated" since it was a clean install. But I think something in the default installation uses the old stuff, I get this error message: "Language file does not exist Please check: assets/snippets/newslisting/lang/english.inc.php" on several places.

As people new to MODx perhaps also choose not to install the deprecated stuff, they also will get the same massage, and maybe they will think less of MODx due to that. (The solution is easy, but that's not the point.)

EDIT: After reinstalling MODx and choosing to install all the stuff, even the depricated, this problem does not occur.

3. Maybe not a bug, but anyway: After putting all the installation files in the site root and surfing to the root of "www.learningmodx.com" I get the message telling me MODx isn't yet installed and also a link to start the installation. If someone happens to surf to my site before I installed it, but after uploading installation files, they surely will press install. Smiley Not good, the text about installing MODx should just occur if you surf to the exact file "/install/install.php".

4. I get several warnings like these in the manager, I didn't get them on the same server with 0.921:

Warning: mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /path_to/learningmodx.com/manager/actions/document_data.static.php on line 247

Warning: mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /path_to/learningmodx.com/manager/actions/document_data.static.php on line 254

Probably me doing something wrong.

EDIT: After reinstalling MODx and choosing to install all the stuff, even the depricated, this problem does not occur.

And a small wish list:

* Is it possible to make the toolbar for edit and save to be fixed at the top position? Or could you maybe also put it on the top menu so I can always get to it without scrolling? (Edit: Or I can use the plug-in for this! Smiley)
* When in manager clicking on "recourses" in top menu I also have to click on "manage recourses" in the next menu before getting to the recourses. That is an extra step that isn't needed until there are more than one option in the second menu. When clicking top level "Recourses", "Manage recourses" could show up default.
* Nice to get a warning in the manager that config.inc.php is writable, could you aslo add a suggestion to that text of what cmod to use? (I used 444, is that correct?) Yes, I'm a newbie, but not the only one Wink
* Could "Reports/System Info" make a small list about server configuration? I mean like showing apache, mysql och php versions. It could be great to easily access that information to be able to attach it when asking for support. I often see people trying to give support in forums asking for that info.

I really really love to new look and the "new" very fast manager.

Thanks from a newbie who loves MODx! Smiley

ADDED: In front end, nothing happens when I try to change template.

EDIT: For people readning my post and thinking I'm stupied:
Quote
IMPORTANT NOTE: Until this text is removed, this version is not for feedback on the content really as there's an appreciable amount to do there still. You should install all snippets, even the deprecated ones.
That note came *after* I posted Wink

Please keep in mind that this release is not complete on the content, as noted in the release announcement. Lots of stuff needs to be cleaned up in the actual content itself, including converting all calls to eForm, Wayfinder and Ditto (replacing the various contact forms, DropMenu and Newslisting). Even Ditto itself will need to be updated to the 1.1 release prior to the 0.9.5 release. Great feedback so far! Cheesy

In reality, there's enough bugs fixed in this version that I would personally do the same thing if starting a new site.

This beta looks good,
The manager is nicest  Wink due to great color and new organisation. No problems at this time
I was hopping some "little" changes with article management, may be in 1.0

Thanks

Hello everyone, I am having problem with 0.9.5 beta installation.

I copied files, created database, ran installation pages and everything went fine. Then, after the last step of installation, I got redirected to

http://www.mysite.com/manager/index.php?a=2

but following error page appeared

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in
<...>/html/manager/includes/document.parser.class.inc.php on line 1112

Now, no matter if I try to access http://www.mysite.com or http://www.mysite.com/manager, this same error always appear. If it does help you in any way - I checked creation of demo site, as well as deletion of install directory.

After I looked into document.parser.class.inc.php on line 1112:

      if ($js = $this->getRegisteredClientScripts()){

Hi milicicd,

It sounds suspiciously that all the files were not copied properly to your server. Can you try re-FTPing up all your files in the manager folder, but keeping your /manager/includes/config.inc.php file?

Trying out the beta on a new site and have installed from scratch. Some issues and requests that I have so far, correct me if I'm missing anything.

- I can't log into the manager with Safari (or any Webcore browsers i.e. Shiira). I type in the URL and it just sits there waiting. Logging-in with Firefox/Camino or Opera is fine.
- I'm currently working on a site that will have a document count in the thousands, when using DocManager there could be a potential problems if someone accidentally presses the "View and select documents using the Document Tree" button, because you'll seem to get a ridiculously long and unmanageable list returning. Is there a way to limit this list or even disable the button? Maybe in a similar fashion to Document Tree on the left-hand side?
- There seems to be no way to delete Resource Categories.
- When creating a Template Variable with Input Type: Date and Widget:Unixtime, the little button graphics don't appear beside the input field in the document.
- When creating a TV with Input Type:File and Widget:Image, the TV renders <img  src="http://localhost/trunk/assets/files/0282.jpg" alt="Main Image" class="galleryheader" style=""  /> when no style value is entered in the style textbox. I would like it to simply render nothing if no value is entered. "class", "alt" work fine.

I will tell you of any other issues I encounter.

I'm using: Intel Mac 10.4.7/Apache 1.3.33/PHP 5.1.6 (Marc Liyange's 5.1.6-1package)/My SQL 5.0.24-standard

Great work!

Hmm. I'm on a G4 iBook with Safari 2.0.4, OSX 10.4.7, with a MAMP setup, and have no problem logging in.

Worked out what the problem was. I was typing logging into the manager using the URL http://nameofcomputer.local/trunk/manager/
This worked in Camino/Firefox/Opera but not in Webcore browsers.

Not sure why I didn't think of this when I posted, but I just tried http://localhost/trunk/manager/ and it works in the Webcore browsers. I wouldn't have thought it would make a difference (as both methods work in Firefox et al).

Ah. I cheat  Wink I have all my browser's homepages set to http://localhost/, which gives me the directory listing, and I just select which one I want to go to. I usually have at least a dozen different things going on there, and not all of them MODx, so it's a lot easier for me than trying to remember what I want.

Hi!
I am using 0.9.5 on a WIn2003 with PHP 4.3.8 and Mysql 5.0

I upgraded from 0.9.5 today and all went perfectly but, one of my pages stopped working, it had ID=2 and I just did a "duplicate" and the page worked (id=91)
strange?!

Anyhow, is it possible to change the IDs of the documents? If so how?
EDIT: Another thing that I just noticed, i have a manager user, with a redirect to id=6, it worked flawlessly before now the page he gets is: http://hemsidetest/manager/processors/login.processor.php  (OBS!! The URL doesn't work, it is internal only)
and no layout what so ever just white background and black text. (if i correct the url to: index?id=6  it workes!

A thing that might be connected is, that QuickEdit doesn't work with this user (or any user), it shows up, but one can not click the "buttons".
EDIT2: Seems that the quickedit workes fine in Firefox, but not in IE

otherwise, the new version is GREAT! It is blazingly fast! and I really like the category functions Cheesy

great work!

Loving 0.9.5, but... Anybody have any idea why I'm getting:
Code:
Notice: Undefined index: mgrValidated in /home/httpd/vhosts/thetrendz.com/httpdocs/index.php on line 137
after an otherwise beautiful upgrade process?  Example page is here if anybody's interested.

It doesn't show up if you're logged in to the manager and view the frontend.
Thoughts?
