Hi everyone !
i was just wondering :  Ditto/Newslisting snippets have become so great snippets, that they now includes all the functionalities of the Dropmenu. It is possible to build a menu, very simply with Ditto, and with a better output control than with Dropmenu. so i just would like to know if Dropmenu will still be developed, as it is now obsolete compared to ditto/newslisting ??
bye

I suppose you could but it would most likely be a lot of extra overhead. DropMenu is being re-crafted as well and will make an appearance soon in a much nimbler and flexible form.

I was about to merge some of the existing dropmenu mods together and fix the most discussed bugs, but I've hold off the changes after that I saw this. My question is that will the existing mods be included to the new DropMenu? Here's a list of some mods/bug/wish threads around the forums for your reviewing. Some of the issues can also be found at bug tracker.

Performance issues

Use several times on one page with different input: maxlevels and startdoc

MenuTitle has to be on every document

If a document is a folder AND it's below the top level AND you want it not to be a link, DropMenu fails

Missing $subnavClass

selfaslink and here class issues:
Here class variation
Fix by sottwell

Possible to show startDoc in menu

Link from folder to first item:
Have empty folders link to first child document
Weblink as folder no link at all

Better css id's/classes
decimal-classification of levels
Set .class and rel for <a> tags
Custom class for the dropmenu's <LI>
Individual Ids
indication of subpages

Wish: a more configurable dropmenu

Usefull mods / hacks:

Modified for weblinks and regexp on keywords/TV.

Access Keys

startFromParent

activeTreeOnly

Some hacks merged and some bugs fixed

Please people, add more to this thread if there's something important missing above. I hope atleast some of these issues will be taken into consideration when reworking the DropMenu snippet.

Very, very useful list Doze. This should be added to the repository with Dropmenu.

Thank you doze... saved me more than a few hours!

FYI, the next version/replacement for DropMenu will use templates (chunks, actually) heavily to format the output. This will allow us a LOT more flexibility in doing away with a lot of the hacks. You interested in helping out re-architect the whole thing doze?

This is GREAT news Ryan, having so many hacks around is not so great, templates and chunks, now you're talking !
I am eager to see this in action Grin
