Hi, has anyone had any problems with ModX on Media Temple? I'm using Evolution on a Media Temple grid server and I keep getting SQL errors and uploading images through the manager with FCK Resource Browser is painfully slow.

Another thing I've noticed is that the system seems to run better depending on which browser I'm using. Safari is the worst, FireFox is a little better and Camino is the best. I've never had this issue with any other install of ModX.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

I'm very satisfied with my (mt) grid server. I've had problems with
FCK file browser on the front-end for web users using TinyMCE

...Edit php.ini to allow for more memory and choose PHP 5 for the domain.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give this a shot.

I gave this a try and it improved the overall performance of the manager, but uploading images through the resource browser is still very slow. I have multiple editors adding content to the site and they're all experiencing problems when trying to upload images. Is there an alternative to FCK resource browser or should I replace Tinymce with FCK?

Something about Media Temple bothers me.  One thing I have noticed is that it's a huge pain in the @#%@ to use SFTP... FTP works fine, but an SFTP login dumps you in the wrong directory entirely (good luck finding your home directory in the maze of grid server directories), the SFTP transfers are terribly slow, and if you don't constantly massage your connection, it times out (same with SSH).

I don't think this has anything to do with the resource browser, but it is nice that you can edit your own php.ini file on MT.  Have submitted a help ticket?  They're pretty good with their responses.

If you have ssh access, why not just create a symlink in the sftp home directory to your website's root directory?

I believe that you can also use sftp to create these.

ln oldpath newpath
    Creates a symbolic link from oldpath to newpath.

symlink oldpath newpath

I have my sftp client bookmarks set to move me into the proper directory on login.

Any other thoughts on how I can improve the performance of the manager?

I use:
memory_limit = 99M
upload_max_filesize = 50M
post_max_size = 50M

Quote
If the upload_max_filesize is larger than post_max_size, you must increase post_max_size so that it is bigger than upload_max_size

If the value of post_max_size is larger than memory_limit, you must increase memory_limit so that it is larger than post_max_size.

Tried this, unfortunately it didn't make much difference. Whenever I try to use the resource browser, I'm getting these errors:

Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /nfs/c01/h06/mnt/8604/domains/mydomain.com/html/manager/includes/user_settings.inc.php on line 18

I would open up a support ticket. I run both 0963 and EVO without this.

I opened a support ticket, but it wasn't much help. I'm at a total loss here. I can't tell if it has to do with the host or something in MODx.

I've run a Dedicated Virtual Server from MT for 3 years now (am up to hosting 12 sites and about to upgrade to the next level of DV server).  I have had 1 issue in a 3 year period, which was the cause of a fire in a data center (which I compare to lightning striking, chances are 1 in 1 million)  Beyond that they have been the best hosting platform I've ever used in 10 years of web development (I've used about 15 different hosts or so over the years) - Their support staff is super knowledgeable and responsive, with my DV I have control over everything I need in the environment and each of my clients gets their own control panel to manage Databases, emails, (or anything I give them permission to) and I can even set storage and traffic limits on each account.

I'm an MT fan for life.

What's your database host set as in your config.inc.php?  MT requires that you reference the "internal.123.abc" or something like that as your database host, which is different than most -- most other hosts just require that you reference "localhost" as your database host.

Yeah I made sure it was pointed to my server name, but it was never going to work...

Guys I solved the issue it was MediaTemple. Took them 12 hours to get back to me only to say their Grid Servers don't offer support for this kind of service!! Shocked I want my 12hours back!!! Angry The project was supposed to be online yestday/

In the meantime I setup my domain with TMDhosting.com The site was up in a few minutes !!!  Grin Cheesy
They even did the transfer for me and setup the DB connections  Grin. Brilliant service top marks for MODx support!

I'm not clear on what exactly the problem was... we've got several MODx Evolution sites hosted on MT gridservers, and we haven't had problems.
