Kinda looks fugly in Firefox 3 when you have the white against the silver background in Windows Vista's Firefox theme. Wink

Clear your browser cache. There's a new favicon.

I think by definition favicon's have to be 8-bit, so they don't support transparent backgrounds. I hope I'm wrong and please feel free to correct me on that one; I'll happily update it.

Ryan, I think you can use index transparancy in 8-bit. I think you run into issues with alpha. I think some of the favicon generators will do this automatically for you.

My favicon for smashingred.com has transparency. I think I used one of the online favicon generators.

That's going to get blocky/halo'd with the shadow under the box-X... will revisit later.

I'd be inclined to drop the shadows its only 16x16 in the browser so the shadow is barely visible as it is.

And revisited, sans shadow. Thanks for pointing it out. Smiley

Funny how the changing of the favicon had such an impact on my screen (I normally will have a series of tabs open with forum posts). The new one is a bit happier, not sure if it is the color combo or the fluid shape. In any case it has brightened up my screen a bit (hope it will catch on to my mood as well...I hate mondays).

Maybe you should try it here; the first day of the week (yom rishon, first day) here is Sunday. That way you'd get half-day off on Friday (yom shishi, sixth day) because everything shuts down around 2 PM since shabbat starts at sundown, Saturday off (shabbat) and maybe Sunday (Christian day off) and wouldn't have to start work until "yom sheni" (second day)! Of course, the Moslems have Friday as their holy day, so Saturday is the first day of the work week for them. The days are referred to in writing as a, b, g, d, h, v (the first six letters of the Hebrew alphabet) and Shabbat, so it gets confusing until one is used to it. I still often end up counting on my fingers to figure out what day something is open!
