I have always thought of it as mod-x, where the mod sounds like the mod in "mod squad" or "module". However I recently watched a video tour of modx in youTube (very good video series on modx BTW) where the author pronounces it mode-x. Although 100% fluent in english, I have been living oversees for a long time so I may have a distorted understanding.

In (Brazillian) Portuguese it would be mod. The x in potuguese sounds like 'cheez' (not quite cheese but close to it), so the Portuguese pronunciation is mod-cheez.

So, how do you pronounce it.

I pronounce it mod-ex with the emphasis on the mod.

charliez the reason modecs would be spelled that way in Mexico is because IIRC "x" is sort of a soft sound--phonetically modecs is how I pronounce it.

In any event I'd take mahhd-ecks for the 'Mericans in the south'rn parts and us up north might pronounce it Modd-ecks. Mode-ecks sounds like someone being a snob.

yeah, the x in Mexico has several pronunciations (I am in Mexico too)

I also, pronounce it modecs phpnetically, that is probably why the client wrote it like that, I told him
on the phone we use modx...

mode-ecks must be with vanilla ice cream on the side.... Cheesy

I pronounce it "joomla".
Then I wake up in a cold sweat, screaming and sobbing.

No, really though, I pronounce it the "proper" way Wink
"mod" as in "module".

I've had one client that just would always say "mode x". He was a semi-native Spanish speaker, so it kind of made sense, as the "o" in Spanish would definitely be a "mode" pronunciation. Still super annoying though Wink
