"I can learn to resist anything but temptation..."

WWW
« on: Jan 05, 2006, 12:21 PM »

This is more or less a duplicate post based on another post made for project team members.  This plugin adds the Xinha RichText Editor to the manager.

Some of the default plugins are not enabled at this time: CSS, DynamicCSS, FormOperations, Form, FullPage, HtmlTidy, Linker, SpellChecker, SuperClean, and Template.  They are either not compatible or are not recommended for use with MODx.

Please post any bugs, comments, or whatnot.  Definitely would appreciate the feedback!  Smiley

L8R!

Jeff

Update v0.11:
* Fixed problem with multiple instances (variable wasn't set). Xinha should now work with QuickEdit and TV's.
* Fixed a few minor problems with certain plugins not showing up.
* The SuperClean plugin has been added to the list.

Update v0.2:
* Added two new plugins: ModxImage & ModxLink. These replace the default 'Insert Image' and 'Insert Link' dialog boxes with ones that provide integration with the resource browser. The plugins are available so long as the 'Use Resource Browser' option is set to 'Yes'.
* Removed unused plugins from plugins directory.

Update v0.3
* Updated Xinha to revision 421.
* Added ClientsideSpellcheck, GetHtml, HorizontalRule, PasteText plugins.
* Changed how plugin selection works. Custom plugins are now entered via a comma delimited textbox. The plugin parameter for this was removed.
* Front-end capabilities were not added due to configuration and security issues. It is not recommended to use Xinha for a RichText widget!

11/20/2005 Notes:
Regarding update v0.3, this is still considered a beta because...well...Xinha is still a beta itself.  Until a stable, official 1.0 release, there are going to be some outstanding issues with Xinha.  These issues effect what Xinha can and cannot do in MODx.  Most notably, Xinha is not the most configurable editor when it comes to its toolbar.  As such, using Xinha as a front-end editor within a RichText widget is not recommended since too many options would be available for the average visitor.  Thus, I didn't rewrite the plugin to allow for front-end use...I just think that Xinha is not the right editor for this.  Also, I've noticed quite a few quirks in getting Xinha to display properly in all browsers (especially IE!!).

It is for these reasons above that I will not likely be continuing full development on the plugin.  I might release an update here and there...but unless I start seeing some serious turn-around on the development of Xinha, I just don't think it's worth the effort to continue supporting it for the time being.  This doesn't mean that Xinha will be ignored in the future...it just means that I won't be messing with it too much...at least until a more stable version is available.  Smiley

Ehmm...

Which one better? Xinha or FCKEditor?

I was wondering, is there anyway to set predefined folder for image browser for every manager user or based on their manager group? Will it be do able with Xinha?
I think I saw a post in this forum regarding that, but I couldn't find it.

Thanks

Although it's completely subjective, I tend to feel that FCK is better than Xinha.  Xinha just feels too quirky and rough around the edges.  It's still a beta by definition and there aren't any reports as to when an official 1.0 release will be.

Personally, I find TinyMCE to be a better editor overall...but that's just me.  Smiley

Hmm...this is something that we could probably do in the future when we move to a different resource browser.  Alot of the functionality for where things are store are sort of static at the moment.  When we develop a new resource browser, I'll see if we can get something like this in there.  Might take a few versions but it will eventually be in there.  Cheesy

Yeah. Options are good. I'm on the flip side. I've been using HTMLArea for a long time and my users are accostomed to it. I've been hoping for Xinha for a long time. Am looking forward to testing it out! Thanks.

Nice to have options, agreed Smiley
Thanks I never tested Xinha but I agree that TinyMCE is better than FCK Editor : better html output IMHO...

Anyway, thanks !
I'll test this out of curiosity...

Thanks for the great reply.

I will stick with fck for now. Is there any implementation of tinymce yet? if yes, I would like to give it a go, because I'm tired of the html output that is produced by fck, it's not valid xhtml, which cause my whole site not valid.

Thanks

I know the feeling... one nice solution is to have a js quicktag html toolbar (like wordpress has) or use Textile or Markdown.

But in many cases clients want WYSIWYG pure and simple : bye bye standards compliancy...

Do you think tinyMCE will still produce this invalid xhtml tag? I saw their website, and there is a feature list that said it will only produce standard compliance tag. Is that true? If it's, then everybody happy, right?

Where can i set the path to my css-File?

You should see an option labeled 'Path to CSS file' in the Interface & Editor Settings tab.  Once you set that you can enable the Stylist plugin to use the CSS file.  The Stylist plugin is currently the only way to use custom CSS simply because all the other CSS plugins are buggy and don't work well within MODx.  Hope this helps!  Smiley
