I have posted on my website a template called "Pager" (it looks like a big pager/beeper).  There is a direct download for the zip file that contains everything you need to use it as a template.  I also provided a file called pager_xcf.zip which includes the original artwork with layers for GIMP.  There is a tutorial on how to customize the GIMP .xcf file, how to use XHTML to create a "tableless" template, and a tutorial on using CSS to replace tables as a layout element.  I have attached a screenshot, and you can view the tutorial here:

I saw a post a while back where a user was frustrated with the lack of included MODx templates.  The advice that user received was "It is easy to make your own", which is true, but no one really took the time to explain how.  I hope this helps anyone with the same frustrations, or anyone who wants a freebie template!

Thanks.  I hope someone finds it useful.  I haven't posted much here lately because this tutorial has been my "pet" project for the last week.  My wife got pretty pissed that I would come home from work, pick up the PowerBook, and work on "stupid" tutorials for hours.  She actually hid my Mac.

Anyway, I finished up today, and now that I have the tutorial finished, I want to crank out a couple new templates, complete with the .xcf image files every week or two.  Ideally, I would like to see MODx have a large repository (like 100+) of high quality, good looking, FREE templates to choose from.  I see Susan has ported a few nice ones, plus she has some good templates on her site.  I was thinking of something like a photogallery or something where you could see a screenshot or maybe a page on modxcms.com where the user can select a theme from a list and see it on that page before they download it.

I forgot to post the zip files here.  I guess I should just add them to the original post.
