The Team
MODx didn't happen over night. It took a team of devoted people who donated years of time to make MODx what it is today.
So just who exactly makes MODx tick? Well the community at large, but it does take a bit of guidance and management. Below is a list of the core team members who spend their time developing MODx's code and community.
Ryan Thrash MODx Founder & Community Leader
Ryan is a Christian, the lucky husband of an amazing wife, and proud father of an incredibly funny boy and a gorgeous infant girl who already knows exactly how to get what she wants out of daddy. By all accounts, Ryan's in trouble—big time.
A native redneck from East Texas now living in Dallas, he co-founded the MODx project and acts as project manager, cheerleader, strategist and marketeer. He is one of the primary contacts for MODx-related business, press and marketing-related opportunities.
Jason Coward MODx Co-Founder & Lead Architect
Jason develops for MODx full time, is a freelance drummer and percussionist, and in his free time, an avid pool player. Of course his wonderful girlfriend of 12 years, Christina, his four cats, and his obsession for MODx keep the free time to a minimum. Our "resident hippie rockstar" says Ryan, "and don't forget geek" reminds Jason.
Jason is the lead core developer for MODx, being the inventor of xPDO and one of the founding members of MODx. He currently specializes in the underpinnings of MODx Revolution, including the database modeling, transport packaging, and context development.
Shaun McCormick MODx Foundation & Lead UI Developer
Shaun McCormick is in love with Jesus, happily married to his wonderful wife Jamie, plays any musical instrument he can get his hands on, loves his church community Hope in the City, and is slowly accumulating all the foam pads he can find to create a recording studio in his home. He's been in the web development industry for over ten years, and specializes in framework UI development.
Shaun specializes in rapid UI implementations for MODx Revolution, lexicon handling, transport packaging, and all other Javascript development. He also created modxcms.com's Extras section, a dynamic repository system that feeds directly into MODx Revolution.
Zaigham Rana Community, Troubleshooting & QA
Zaigham (aka zi) is a guy on the MODx team. But not just any guy. He's probably the first person you'll meet warmly welcoming you to the community and helping around the project. And, Zi is too shy to tell you what an asset he is to the MODx team, so Ryan had to write this for him.
Zaigham serves as a webmaster, evangelist, designer, moderator, community leader, tester, troubleshootizationer and documentator for the MODx project, and is one of its earliest adopters and team members. You can visit his website Zaigham's Web.
Garry Nutting Component Development/Testing
Garry Nutting is a fanatical web developer based in Lincolnshire, UK and has worked on numerous programming platforms in developing and managing large-scale applications and enterprise level websites. Joining the MODx development team in early 2006, Garry applies his bug-squishing skills to MODx releases and has contributed numerous Components.
As an avid gamer, metaller, and darts player Garry can often be found wiling away his spare time on the xbox360, spending too much money on iTunes, or down the pub fuelling himself with Guinness and aiming for that first 9 dart finish.
Jeff Whitfield Component Development & QA
What happens when you unleash a frustrated musician onto a computer? You get a really big geek! That's Jeff in a nutshell. Since 2005, Jeff has contributed to the MODx project.
Open Source software propent and Web standards believer, Jeff has developed a philosophy that dictates that less is more and that good enough usually isn't good enough. As such, Jeff feels that the products and solutions he uses on a daily basis reflect this philosophy, which includes MODx. His wife, Sarah, has managed to survive the geekiness within their home since the time they were married in December, 2005.
Jay Gilmore Community & Social Networks
Jay Gilmore, is a guy who does stuff on and with the interwebnets and gets paid (occasionally). He is a perpetual life-student of all things marketing and really likes helping out small business owners grow their business.
Jay discovered MODx in 2006 and quickly transformed from user to advocate to eventually be drafted to the modx Marketing and design team in 2008. Now you'll find him annoying/informing people on twitter about MODx and helping them use it when possible. Jay is the current MODx Marketing strategy wrangler and bandleader, specializing in promotion, community development, publishing, media and recruitment.
Bob Ray Component Development/Testing
Bob came to MODx from a background in C++ programming. He took one look at MODx and fell in love. He has been a relentless gadfly with respect to MODx terminology and how to connect users to the underlying architecture of MODx via the Manager user interface. His motto is "developers are users too." He is the author of several MODx Revolution 2.0 components, including SPForm, EZfaq, and Captcha.
Bob is a former ski racer and competitive windsurfer and he played lead guitar in a punk rock band for several years. He lives much of the year in his RV, wintering in Florida and spending his summers on the Oregon coast. He is currently at work on a MODx book that is scheduled for publication late in 2009.
Anssi Rajakallio Component Development/Testing
Anssi hails from Finland with several years of software development experience from various platforms and technologies. His professional career started in his own web development company and in about 2005 he discovered and fell in love with MODx. Later on Anssi has gone from J2EE to Symbian and recently back to web development again, so that’s a full circle. Hobbies include playing guitar, snowboarding, gaming and movies.
One of his hobbies is also being part of MODx community. Anssi has contributed multiple components to MODx with the most popular one being an image gallery. He has also worked with core coding and bug killing and helps out in the forums as much as possible.
Mike Schell Component Development/Testing
Mike started coding in 1981 so that he could make music with his Vic 20. He lives in the sticks in rural Ontario, Canada with his growing family, still making music and still coding.
Mike was hooked on MODx from the get-go. Strongly believing in community participation of any scope or frequency, he absolutely loves every minute that he can wrangle himself away from his clients' projects to work on MODx code or hang out with other users.
